Newborn Prep Guide

for studio + in-home sessions

Session Inclusions:

For both studio and in-home sessions, I provide all props, posers, safety wraps, decorative swaddles, bonnets, bows, and accessories. If you have a certain heirloom, accessory or item you wish to incorporate into your session, please let me know ahead of time.

How to plan with a new baby:

We will want your baby fed and sleepy; and in a clean diaper to start. I use a comfort wrap as a “base layer” that will keep baby snug and safe as I change out wraps and positioning throughout the session. I know feeding times can vary, so if your session happens to take place near a feed, please be prepared with a nursing plan or a bottle in case a “snack” is needed before we are finished taking pictures. If your baby is struggling to soothe at any time during your session, we can always do family portraits or poses that allow for your baby to be held to aid in calming them down.

In Home Sessions:

If you choose an in-home session, I encourage clients to tidy up the areas you wish to shoot in (beds made, nightstands cleared, cords hidden, etc). Your session will be scheduled at the specific time of day where lighting is best and most optimal inside your home. We will want to utilize an area in your home that gets lots of clean natural lighting, even if it’s a random office, stairwell, etc! Trust me: natural lighting is key when it comes to dreamy in-home lifestyle portraits.

Studio Sessions:

If you choose the studio option, we will work together to reserve a date & time that works best for your family’s session. The studio I have access to is located on the West side of Wichita and is truly perfection in every single ways for newborn sessions! It boasts beautiful natural lighting at all times of the day and is nestled in a quiet, easily accessible neighborhood with parking right out front. The studio is an excellent choice for my clients who aren’t confident in the natural light sources within their homes. It is also the best option for my clients who plain & simply don’t want to worry about keeping a tidy home during those first newborn weeks! The studio is spacious, well-lit, and has several furniture / setting options to increase variety in your newborn gallery.

What Should I Wear?

Outfits don’t need to be complicated! I encourage my new Mama clients to choose outfits based on an item they are most comfortable in. For example, if you feel confident in a maxi dress after delivery — wear it and coordinate other outfits around it. I will ask you to send color schemes prior to your session so I can bring coordinating swaddles, wraps and accessories for baby.
